Before You Buy An Electric Hospital Bed, we discuss with you the following questions:
1.  Are you really interested in an Adjustable Bed or a Hospital Bed?
2.  How much do you weigh and how tall are you?
3.  What size are you interested in?
4.  What type of Mattress and Mattress Firmness are you interested in?
5.  Is the Optional 3rd Motor important to you (whole bed goes up and down)?
The 3-motor High-Low Flex-A-Bed is available in Twin, Full and Queen and Dual King Adjustable Beds.
6.  Are you interested in Optional Side Rails or Trapeze-Bar?
7.  What are your particular Needs, Concerns, Questions . . .?

If you are disabled, we need to know:

  1. What are your general Health and Pain considerations?
  2. Do you need to transfer to a wheelchair?
  3. Do you have a Caregiver helping you in and out of Bed?
  4. Are side rails or half rails important?
  5. Is a trapeze bar a consideration?
  6. Besides the 3rd motor that elevates the whole bed up and down, are you aware that some hospital beds are available with Trendellenburg, Reverse Trendellenburg and Cardio-Recline Functions?
  7. Do you use a Patient Lift or Hoyer Lift that may also need to fit underneath the bed?
  8. Are Bed Sores a Concern?
  9. Is it important that the Hospital Bed go to a very, LOW position?

STANDARD HOSPITAL BED

A standard hospital bed has two motors where you can electrically elevate your back and your legs to any position you desire (although you are also given a manual crank up-and-down function); 2 Motor:  Head Up and Down; Foot Up and Down. 36" x 80" Standard  some 84".

A standard hospital bed comes with your choice of vinyl covered innerspring or foam Mattress.   Most hospital bed manufactures also have available a very fine, specialized selection of mattresses for your individual needs.  Since "half" your comfort will come from the mattress you select, we must go over your preferences, needs, age, weight and health problems to get you the best night's sleep possible.

Half Rails, Full Rails, Headboard & Footboard, Trapeze Bar, bottom fitted sheets, Mattress (waterproof available) Pads, Bed Tray, Locking Casters, Battery Back-up, Scales, Extra Support Mattress Edges, Low and High-Profile Mattresses, . .  are some of the options we go over.

FULLY ELECTRIC 3 MOTOR HOSPITAL BED

A fully electric hospital bed has 3 motors that allows you to electrically adjust the whole bed up and down; 3 Motor:  Head Up and Down; Foot Up and Down PLUS Whole Bed Goes Up and Down.   The third motor (fully electric) is helpful if you need to transfer to a wheelchair (so the hospital bed can be at the same level of the wheelchair.)  Also it can assist a caregiver to get you at the right height for the caregiver.  If you are short, a low bed is helpful to help you get into bed.  A low bed can also be helpful if you feel someone may ever fall out of bed.  Low beds go as low as 7" to 9" without the mattress.  36" x 80" Standard  some 84"

IF YOU ARE DISABLED

Although all hospital beds elevate and bend the legs to help with circulatory problems and low back pain, some doctors recommend trendellenburg and Cardio-Chair reclining functions.

Trendellenberg slants the whole body flat with the feet up and the back down; or reverse trendellenburg that does the opposite.  Trendellenburg also helps a caregiver and the patient themselves to self-boost and re-adjust their body's position on the hospital bed.

Cardio-Chair Reclining features of theTransfer-Master Sleeper Lounge or Tri-Flex help maintain comfort, respiratory and circulatory functions.  Cardio-Chair reclining positions are also used in pain avoidance positioning creating pressure relief that may also ultimately help to prevent decubitus ulcers.  If someone is disabled, Cardio-Chair Reclining features are surely an added benefit.

BED SORES

If Bed Sores (Stages I-IV) are a concern, there are many advanced technology, special therapeutic support, alternating air and Lateral Rotation Therapy mattresses available.  We would recommend, for one, the fine mattresses from Blue Chip.
